Promote an Event

To help promote .tel to your local community, exchange ideas with industry experts and find partners for your .tel-related projects, you may wish to organise a local .tel event. Telnic helps and encourages such initiatives, so please do not hesitate to contact us for help and support.

The recommended format of a .tel event is TelCamp where members of the .tel community get together and fix the agenda, and discuss anything and everything they care to. We think this format is perfect for .tel and are willing to help make it as successful as possible. For more information about TelCamp, see TelCampus.org and the new TelCamp.tel resource with plenty of useful ideas and innovative usage of .tel technology.

Tips on organizing a TelCamp .tel community event:

  1. Create an agenda. Your event will be much more productive if you have a few dedicated sessions as well as time for free discussions, but be prepared to be flexible. Get feedback via a wiki page prior to the event from some of the attendees.
  2. Agree on the dates and location. You may wish to contact various IT research centres to provide space and additional promotion. Find a venue that can accommodate the right number of attendees easily.
  3. Contact a local ICANN-accredited Registrar or your reseller which provides .tel. They may wish to get involved and help you or even fund refreshments or provide other types of support.
  4. Prepare promotion materials for your event.
    • Create banners and logos. You can benefit from a large number of marketing materials for .tel domains, as well as a TelCamp pack, see below.
    • Write and distribute a press release about the event. Contact Telnic for assistance if you need it.
    • Advertise the event on the .tel community website, forum, LinkedIn groups, and Twitter stream. Let us know and we will feature it in our Events calendar.
    • Create sneak-peek previews, teasers and intros to explain what's going to happen. You can use AudioBoo for sound recording.
    • Advertise your event in local media and dedicated social websites, such as meetup.com.
    • Work with local media to get even more coverage.
  5. Invite key players to join. You can post on Telsters and other forums to invite early adopters as experts, and ask Telnic to join. We'd be happy to send a representative to listen, answer questions and gather feedback, if we have one available.
  6. Setup live-streaming of the event to cover a wider remote audience. Qik is easy to setup for this, and you can watch live or get recordings later. .
  7. Prepare little giveaway presents for participants. It can be a pack of business cards or T-shirts or something new. We may be able to help out with suggestions or small gifts depending on numbers and timescales.
